Aspiring doctors may only practise in Switzerland if they pass the federal examination in human medicine. Before that, they must complete an accredited course of study. The University of St.Gallen recently received the seal of approval.
At its meeting on the 23rd of June 2023, the Swiss Accreditation Council accredited the study programme in Human Medicine at the University of St.Gallen and Zurich (JMM-HSG/UZH) without any conditions. The study programme thus meets the standards of the Higher Education Promotion and Coordination Act (HFKG) and the Medical Professions Act (MedBG). The accreditation is valid until June 2030 and must then be renewed. The detailed report on the external evaluation will be publicly available from September on the website of the Swiss Agency for Accreditation and Quality Assurance (Procedural Reports).
The two universities and the Cantonal Hospital of St.Gallen are pleased with the excellent result of the accreditation and would like to thank all lecturers as well as the partner hospitals and teaching doctors' practices in Eastern Switzerland for their tireless efforts in setting up the programme.
