The assistant professorship of Medical Knowledge and Decision Support is entering a field of research that is not yet well established in this form, as it has become apparent in the course of the tendering process.
Increasingly, physicians are working not only with their own knowledge, but with digital knowledge systems that (ideally) support them in decision-making. Research on how such systems need to be developed is already well covered. The other side, however, that of the physician, is still little exposed. How do such systems change everyday clinical practice? How is professional identity affected? What role model will emerge for the physicians of the future?
Janna Hastings completed two postdoctoral studies where she worked at the intersection between knowledge-based systems and artificial intelligence, and built a comprehensive ontology, data repository and artificial intelligence-driven knowledge system for evidence about human behavior change to support decision-making, policy and practice for healthy behaviors.
Since 1st of August 2022, Janna Hastings is Assistant Professor for Medical Knowledge and Decision Support at the Institute for Implementation Science in Health Care, Medical Faculty, University of Zurich. She joins also the board of directors of the School of Medicine at the University of St.Gallen.
