On November 27, 2025, experts from across Switzerland gathered at the Swiss Cancer League in Bern for the Swiss Cancer Screening Conference (SCS-C). The hybrid meeting focused on the scientific and medical aspects of cancer screening in Switzerland.
In the breast cancer session, Marcel Blum (Cancer League of Eastern Switzerland & University of St. Gallen) presented insights on how AI is currently being used at the mammography screening program “donna”. His results showed that AI can effectively complement and support radiologists and has the potential to increase the effectiveness of the program by improving cancer detection and enabling earlier diagnosis, ultimately enhancing women’s quality of life.
Irene Salvi and Maxime Sapin (University of St. Gallen) reported on the project “The Future of Breast Cancer Screening.” They presented results from the expert panel that examined how screening programs could be improved, focusing on key domains such as age range, screening intervals, and participation. The next expert panel will focus on AI in screening and emerging screening technologies, and a total of five panels are scheduled to take place by mid-2027.
Both presentations concluded the day and contributed to a highly enriching conference.
