Trendtage Gesundheit Luzern

On March 26, 2026, 500 decision-makers from the Swiss healthcare sector gathered at the Trendtagen Gesundheit Luzern. The focus was on discussing a sustainable healthcare system. Dr. Justus Vogel, a research group leader at the School of Medicine, delivered a keynote address outlining key approaches to improving care for people with chronic illnesses.

The number of preventable hospitalizations among chronically ill people in Switzerland is rising steadily. Between 2012 and 2019, the healthcare system recorded an increase of about one-third to over 40,000 cases per year. Due to demographic trends, an additional 20,000 cases could be added by 2032. This trend represents one of the most pressing challenges for the Swiss healthcare system.

Keynote Address: Avoiding Hospitalizations Through Better Care

As part of the “Meet the Experts – Lunch Event,” organized by Trendtagen Gesundheit Luzern and AstraZeneca at the KKL Luzern, Dr. Justus Vogel addressed this very issue. In his keynote address titled “Solutions to the Care Crisis: How Can Better Care for the Chronically Ill Prevent Hospitalizations?”, he highlighted current developments and presented well-founded approaches to counter this trend.

Following the presentation, a group lunch provided the perfect setting for a lively and in-depth discussion. Numerous healthcare experts took the opportunity to exchange ideas on innovative solutions and the practical implementation of improved patient care.
