New Research Project: Management of hospital bottlenecks

In a new research project, funded by the HSG Stepping Stone Program, Dr. Justus Vogel’s research group is investigating whether optimizing clinical decisions in main hospital process areas can help to resolve process bottlenecks. As a first application example, we plan to use causal forest to estimate conditional average treatment effects on individual patients’ readmission risk linked to discharging them from the intensive care unit (ICU). For this project, we cooperate with Prof. Dr. med. Miodrag Filipovic and his team from the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen. The official project start is in May, after receiving ethics approval.
