Our Team at the Johns Hopkins Science Diplomacy Summit 2025

Our research team from the School of Medicine at the University of St. Gallen took part in this year’s Johns Hopkins Science Diplomacy Summit 2025, held in Washington, D.C., from April 14–15.

Maxime Sapin and Carla Walker presented the collaborative project titled “Bridging the gap from data to action: a cross-country analysis of the potential of large language models in public reporting.” The study was developed jointly by Ona Ambrozaite, Jessica Garvin, Claudia Fernandez Perez, and Haneesh Venkata Sai Sigirisetty from the Johns Hopkins University and by Maxime Sapin, Carla Walker Dr. Justus Vogel and Prof. Alexander Geissler from the University of St. Gallen.

The project addressed a persistent challenge in health systems worldwide: while public reporting aims to support patient choice, it remains underused. The goal of the research was to assess the potential of large language models (LLMs) to enhance public reporting and identify functional requirements. The study generated practical policy insights on how LLMs can be meaningfully applied to improve public reporting.

The Summit provided an inspiring forum to engage with global experts at the intersection of science, policy, and diplomacy, and to explore how research can inform international health governance in the age of AI.
