Since 2020, the University of St. Gallen has been offering a Master's degree programme in medicine in collaboration with the University of Zurich and other partners in eastern Switzerland. One of the focal points of the Joint Medical Masters in St. Gallen is primary medical care, which is why various internships take place in general practitioners' and paediatricians' practices. In this context, we rely on the support of general practitioners and paediatricians from Eastern Switzerland who are interested in teaching.
We are looking for future teaching doctors from Eastern Switzerland for practical training in general practice and paediatrics
- Half-day to full-day assignments in the Bachelor's programme (observation and transfer days)
- Half-day to full-day assignments in the 1st year of the Master's programme (M1): individual tutorials Clinical course in general practice (autumn semester) and clinical course in primary care in general practice (spring semester)
- Junior assistant positions in the elective year (M2)
Medical teaching course for general pracititioners and paeditricians
Currently, our faculty includes approximately 60 trained teaching physicians from outpatient primary care. Most of them have already supervised students in the Clinical Course in Family Medicine and the Primary Care Course in Family Practice. In order to accommodate the increasing number of students, we need additional teaching physicians who would like to become involved in the training of young physicians.
On June 4, 2026 from 15:30 to 18:30 at the School of Medicine in St.Gallen another didactics training will take place, which qualifies to supervise Joint Medical Master students from St.Gallen in single tutorials. We would be very pleased if you could attend. If the date does not suit you, please let us know and we will offer further trainings. General requirements for teaching doctors
Mandatory criteria
- Specialist in general internal medicine or paediatrics, or general practitioner with at least three years of practical experience
- Focus on outpatient primary care
- Participation in the GP emergency service
- Laboratory, ECG and small spirometry available in the practice
- Interest and enjoyment of practical teaching (applies to teaching doctors and medical practice assistants)
- Willingness to meet the academic and didactic requirements for the respective internship supervision
- Willingness to evaluate teaching in practice
Optional criteria
- Possibility of home and/or nursing home visits
- Possible availability of X-ray and ultrasound
- Preferably attended introductory course for teaching practitioners (WHM)
- Teaching practice preferably accredited as a certified training centre for general internal medicine or paediatrics
