Bridging the Gap from Data to Action: A Cross-Country Analysis of the Potential of Large Lan-guage Models in Public Reporting

Project Description

Public reporting in healthcare is crucial to enhance transparency, accountability, and informed provider choice. However, public reporting websites continue to be much underutilized. This collaborative project with Johns Hopkins University (USA) explores the potential of large language models (LLMs) to enhance the effectiveness and accessibility of public reporting across seven countries—Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Building on recommendations from the FQC report "Quality Monitoring and Public Reporting: Recommendations for the Swiss Healthcare System" (link), this initiative focuses on:

  • Identifying the functional requirements of LLMs to address challenges in public reporting systems.
  • Proposing technical solutions for implementing LLMs to deliver personalized, user-friendly healthcare quality data.
  • Conducting a cross-country analysis to evaluate the feasibility and adaptability of integrating LLMs into public reporting systems.
  • Developing policy recommendations to guide the implementation of LLM technologies for enhancing public reporting practices.

By integrating LLM technology, this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between data availability and action, and paves the way for more transparent, accessible, and patient-centered public reporting systems.
