Association of hospital digitalization, profitability, and quality

Are profitable hospital more digitally mature? Do digitally mature hospitals perform better in terms of quality?

Project description

Hospital digitalization is no end in itself but is meant to increase hospital profitability and quality, potentially leading to more sustainably financed hospitals and better quality on system level. At the same time, in the presence of public underinvestment, hospitals in a Diagnosis-related group flat rate-based payment system excluding investment expenditures, such as in Germany, can only invest in digitalization if they manage to operate profitably.

In this project, we aim to unveil associations between hospital digitalization, profitability, and quality. When investigating “quality” in this context, we include process, outcome, and service quality in our analyses.
