This project examines whether and how cross-cantonal hospital planning can contribute to provide the population of Schwyz with high-quality hospital care. Additionally, it aims to ensure broad access to hospital services for the population of Schwyz while not neglecting the financial sustainability and economic efficiency of hospital services.
To achieve this complex project goal, the project is divided into three main work packages: First, we analyze the current state of the hospital landscape and hospital planning in the Canton of Schwyz and neighboring cantons, along with the legal framework and regional care strategies. Next, we develop scenarios for various forms of cross-cantonal cooperation. The quantitative analyses are complemented by qualitative interviews with relevant stakeholders. Finally, we evaluate the developed scenarios in terms of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks. In doing so, we consider economic and structural effects on healthcare provision, as well as impacts on jobs and tax revenues in the Canton of Schwyz. The results are summarized in a report that will serve as a basis for future strategic decisions by the Canton of Schwyz regarding the future orientation of hospital care.
